Beware of the 21st Century

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4678220.stm

In some aspects this problem reminds me a fight over the statue of headless Lenin in Estonian summer capital Pärnu. http://www.dcestonian.com/estonews/articles/04/parnu041504.htm

It is clear that the freedom of speach is important. But how free can and should it really be? It is also clear that all the people in the world can never think or understand things in the same way. There are laws to protect the freedom of speach, but also laws to protect people who have been unfairly blamed or insulted. If simple apologies are not enough, why not to use those laws for fighting at the first place? Different cultures and opinions make the world more interesting and are a healthy challenge for the mind. Violence definitely is not. It doesn't matter where it comes from. But this is not something that I want to discuss right now.

Because of the big fight over Danish cartoon, the news about the air quality in Göteborg this week hardly made it to the first page of GP. http://www.gp.se/gp/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=113&a=256404
