I don't recommend conferences 8 days in a row. You might feel exchausted after that. After all the statistics and sheep in Rebild, it became time to go to Bioinformatics 2006 in Århus, just about 2 hours by car and still in Denmark, so there's no need to talk about the landscape again.
Talks in Bioinformatics were much harder to grasp, compared to NordStat. First, because the conference was worldwide-international instead of nordic-international. Second, in bioinformatics you can talk about pretty much everything that has a taste of biological sciences and computational techniques, and go as deep as you wish and talk about as many things as you have done. Which resulted in being really confused and tired sometimes. But then again, football joined us all to be a big friendly family when Sweden won Paraguay on 89th minute.
Dindn't have a chance to see almost any sights due to the conference, so I missed the Bernt Notke's great Gothic a
ltar, Women's museum and The Old Village, but our little cosy hotel "Guldsmeden" compensated it all. Warm evenings soft-soaped many of the guests to sit outside in the inner garden and lack of the tables even made them talk to each other, which was, of course, pleasant. House itself was simple and elegant at the same time. Instead of long corridors and elevators we had nice cosy stairs and small balconies for common use. It didn't have as many stars as most other hotels in Århus, but because of the old romantic touch inside, evening chats with candlelight in the little garden, and friendly personnel, it felt like home all the time. I would definitely go back if I had a reason.Outside in the garden there was even a kind of a lifting-system consisting basically of a rope and a hook. Every evening there was a theory, which I think correlated with the amount of wine, that we should make an experiment and lift me up with the rope, but luckily the plan was not realised and I never had to use my health insurance.
Finally, arrived home on sunday evening and slept 10 hours in a row. After having wine and danish potatos for dinner every evening last week, I'm planning only drink milk and eat pasta all this week (with one exception on midsummer evening). Now, I'm trying to work as much as I can, to deserve the summer vacation. Can't wait!
